rclone-backup is a personal backup utility written and run by one individual for their own data. It has exactly one user, who is also its author and the owner of the Google account it accesses. It is not offered to anyone else, and it collects no data from anyone else.
The application requests a single Google OAuth scope:
https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.readonly — read-only
access to the signed-in user's Google Drive.
In practice it reads only the Takeout/ folder, which is where
Google Takeout delivers scheduled export archives. The scope is read-only, so
the application cannot create, modify, or delete anything in Google Drive.
It does not use the Google Photos APIs and does not access Gmail, Contacts, Calendar, or any other Google service.
Takeout archives are copied to a folder on the author's personal computer. No data is transmitted anywhere else by this application, and none of it is inspected, indexed, analysed, or processed — it is copied and stored as-is.
The downloaded archives live on local disk and are included in that machine's offsite backup. That backup is provided by Backblaze, under the author's own personal account. So Backblaze does hold a copy, in the same way it holds a copy of everything else on that computer, under their privacy policy.
No other third party receives this data. It is never sold, shared, published, used for advertising, or used to train any model.
These two pages are static and are served by a third-party hosting provider. No application data passes through them.
Local copies are kept for as long as they are useful as a backup, and deleted at the author's discretion. Deleting the source data in Google Drive does not automatically remove copies already taken, which is the entire point of a backup.
This site sets no cookies and contains no analytics, trackers, fonts, or scripts loaded from third parties. The application itself performs no telemetry of any kind.
Access can be withdrawn at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Doing so immediately stops all further access to Google Drive.
If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page is updated.
